A Pretty Picture Book

Artists' Textiles 1940-1976 By Geoff Rayner,
Richard Chamberlain and Annamarie Phelps
($31.98) Amazon

When fabric and art collide you get textiles. I caught wind of this in the July/August issue of House Beautiful.
"The development of textiles as an art form between 1945 and 1970, and the extent of collaboration between artists and textile manufacturers at this time, is unrivalled in modern art history. Raoul Dufy was the first twentieth-century artist to become seriously and successfully involved in producing textile designs. His work influenced and encouraged many other artists and textile companies in Britain, on the Continent and in America. After the war this movement really flowered with the involvement of leading artists of the day: Picasso, Matisse, Moore, Nicholson, and Steinberg, to name a few... This book is an important and comprehensive survey of this art form in Britain and America. There are approximately 200 color images, many of which have never been seen before, alongside specially commissioned photography. Beautifully designed, Artists' Textiles: In America and Britain 1945-1976 is a companion volume to Jacqueline Groag ISBN 9781851495900 and Shirley Craven and Hull Traders ISBN 9781851496082, both recently published, to great acclaim, by Antique Collectors' Club, and to Zandra Rhodes: Textile Revolution, Medals, Wiggles and Pop 1961-1971 ISBN 9781851496488. Major artists featured: Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Henry Moore, Saul Steinberg, Eduardo Paolozzi, Fernand Leger, Ben Nicholson." -Amazon

Jon Hamm Worked Where?

Check out lead television drama actors Jon Hamm, Bryan Cranston, Kiefer Sutherland, Kelsey Grammer, Peter Krause and Damian Lewis chew the fat about their craft. In this clip from The Hollywood Reporter they reveal their worst jobs.

Post Snark: I cleaned airplanes in college to pay for a semester abroad. Sadly, this was not the worst job I've ever had. By the way, never touch anything when you're traveling on a plane.

Mad Men Season Finale!

Mad Men fans must savor every moment of tonight's episode as it's the last of the season. What a whirlwind it has been.
  • While Don's new apartment/wife is so very "Zou Bisou Bisou," he's more "Do Be Do Be Do"
  • With Sally's newfound womanhood, she inches every closer to the stripper pole
  • In a bold move, Peggy up and quits SCDP (she's come a long way baby from being pregnant and not knowing it)
  • Pete hooks up with Rory Gilmore (sacré bleu) and I throw up a little in my mouth
  • Via whip cream, Betty stress eats her way into a Weight Watcher's meeting
  • Roger out Rogers himself and I for one couldn't be happier
  • Joan secures her future with a bona fide indecent proposal sans Robert Redford
  • Lane does the unthinkable and goes all Sylvia Plath on our asses ("Dying is like an art"...unless you're trying to do it in a Jaguar)
The season finale of Mad Men airs tonight at 10 on AMC.

A Primer In Fabulous

Watch Paris the Luminous Years - Preview on PBS.  See more from pbs.
"Paris The Luminous Years, explores this unique moment in Paris from 1905 to 1930, decisive years for our contemporary culture, when an international group including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall, Igor Stravinsky, Ernest Hemingway, Jean Cocteau, Gertrude Stein, Vaslav Nijinsky and Aaron Copland, among numerous others, revolutionized the direction of the modern arts." -PBS Online
I'm kind of obsessed with Paris during this period. It was an explosion of creative fabulousness that has informed much of my life. Paris The Luminous Years airs tonight at 9 on PBS.

Post Snark: Recently, a psychic told me about one of my past lives. I was so sure that she was going to see me as an artist in France circa 1920. Not so. I was a prisoner of some sort being terribly mistreated and wearing rags. Gross!

Something Cray Cray This Way Comes

The new season of The Real Housewives Of New York City airs tonight at 9 on Bravo. In addition to the Countess, Sonja and Ramona, Bravo is adding Aviva Drescher, Carole Radziwill, and Heather Thomson to the mix. Jill, Alex and Kelly got the heave-ho. Here's hoping that the new "ladies" bring on the cray.

Post Snark: The real housewives are neither real nor housewives. Discuss.

The ASPCA Goes Glam!

The only thing better than fashion is a puppy which is why I'm crazy about this clip because it has both. Banana Republic's Trina Turk collection teamed up with The American Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals (ASPCA) to raise animal adoption awareness. It also showcases the importance of choosing the right accessories for your pet. The way Lucy works a scarf is something to behold. Check it out above or on the HuffPo
