Really Bad Santa

Rare Exports is the perfect antidote if you overdose on any of those saccharine holiday programs. But heed my warning. This ain't your Mommy's Santa Claus. In fact it confirms my worst fears about Santa (an anagram for Satan). Click here for the trailer.

"It's the eve of Christmas in northern Finland, and an 'archeological' dig has just unearthed the real Santa Claus. But this particular Santa isn't the one you want coming to town. When the local children begin mysteriously disappearing, young Pietari and his father Rauno, a reindeer hunter by trade, capture the mythological being and attempt to sell Santa to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the dig. Santa's elves, however, will stop at nothing to free their fearless leader from captivity. What ensues is a wildly humorous nightmare – a fantastically bizarre polemic on modern day morality." -OscilloscopeFilms

Post Snark: A hairy old man, dressed like a giant tomato, who actually likes to spend time with children. Can you say red flag?

Out Of The Cradle Endlessly Blogging

My first piece of writing "Ode To A Dirty Diaper"
was critically acclaimed amongst the toddler set.

Today marks my 1000th blog posting and from the bottom of my heart I want to thank everyone for reading Fabulous Alert...all ten of you. I kid.

Here's to one thousand more postings. Like the dancer in the Red Shoes, I can't stop. Hopefully I won't blog myself to death.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Woody Allen...

Woody Allen: A Documentary airs tonight at 9 on PBS. As a neurotic woman who may very well have a brain tumor (or maybe my headband is too tight), I couldn't be more excited. He's my favorite American film director.
"American Masters – Woody Allen: A Documentary chronicles the trajectory and longevity of Allen’s career: from his work in the 1950s-60s as a TV scribe for Sid Caesar, standup comedian and frequent TV talk show guest, to a writer-director averaging one film-per-year for more than 40 years. Weide covers Allen’s earliest film work in Take the Money and Run, Bananas, Sleeper, and Love and Death; frequent Oscar favorites such as Annie HallManhattanZeligBroadway Danny RoseCrimes and Misdemeanors, Husbands & Wives, Bullets Over Broadway,
Purple Rose of Cairo, and Mighty Aphrodite; and his recent globetrotting phase with Match PointVicky Christina Barcelona, and this year’s box office smash Midnight in Paris."  -PBS Online

Post Snark: The second part of Woody Allen: A Documentary airs Monday night at 9 on PBS.

The Vocabulary Of Fabulous

Chanel: The Vocabulary Of Style ($63.53) Barnes & Noble
By Jerome Gautier

Gift idea pour moi.
"Through these dazzling photographs, Chanel: The Vocabulary of Style identifies key elements that have defined Chanel's style for generations, such as jersey and tweed, formerly considered menswear fabrics, and the little black dress, which transformed a hue previously reserved for mourning into a statement of elegance. Pearls were her staple, and she often embellished outfits with her signature camellia. Eleven chapters compare the original forms of these enduring trademarks with their later expressions over the years and to the present day, letting the vocabulary of Chanel's style speak for itself."  -Barnes & Noble Online

Post Snark: I just saw a bird in my backyard that had a very distinct Chanel look about it. Is avian chic a thing?

At 90 feet, you'll definitely be sitting on top of the world. I saw this cray-cray wave surfed by Garrett McNamara on The Daily Beast. Click here to check it out or press play video above. It's totally rad.

A Perfect Gift For Carrie Bradshaw

Vogue: The Covers By Dodie Kazanjian

I totally judge a book by its cover and the cover of Vogue: The Covers is fabulous. What's more, it's a book about covers.
"Vogue: The Covers showcases more than 300 of the most iconic, striking, and stylish covers from the magazine's eleven decades. Featured in this diverse selection are pictures by artists including Irving Penn, Annie Leibovitz, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, and Bruce Weber. A majestic tribute to one of the most influential magazines in our history." B&N ONLINE

Little Diptyque

Baby Diptyque Candles ($28) At Nordstrom
At long last, Diptyque's candles are available in a smaller size for $28. Their big candles sell for $60. Spending $28-$60 on a candle seems a tad indulgent, but then I remember that I don't drink wine which can be so expensive. Life is about give and take.

It's A Wrap!

Free holiday gift wrapping is music to my ears, especially at Origins because they always do such a nice job. They are also offering free shipping with $30 orders. Last year after a gift wrapping fiasco of epic proportions, I vowed to never wrap and mail another gift again. Origins here I come. Sea Salt Scrub for everyone!

With armadillos, woolly mammoths, hedgehogs and narwahIs (two different kinds), Anthro has far and away the most unique collection of Christmas ornaments. I think I'm hearing the arctic arf of the narwhal (click here to listen to what one sounds like...so cray cray).
