Hooray For Hollywood At Home

Click here for tips on how to get the Hollywood regency look.

When it comes to seeing inside the homes of the rich and famous I'm unabashedly nosey. HGTV's Hollywood At Home is giving us a little looky loo. It airs tonight at 8 on HGTV.
"Hollywood at Home is an intimate look inside the homes of some of the entertainment industry's most intriguing celebrities. The celebrities themselves are your tour guide. Visit actor John Leguizamo's New York City brownstone, 'The Insider's' Lara Spencer LA home, country star Trace Adkin's secluded hideaway, skater Evan Lysacek's modern space, and musician Paul Shaffer's private office. Also, follow Lisa Ling as she builds an eco-friendly home from the ground up. The one hour special shows the process from start to finish." HGTV Online

Your Royal Invitation...Of Sorts

Click here to see a scene of the Queen getting serenaded by her staff. She looks rather pained. Right before this they actually serenaded the royal horses. No joke.

So you weren't invited to the royal nups. No big deal. Windsor Castle: A Royal Year affords you the rare opportunity to be a fly on the gilded walls. I had no idea you needed so many people to keep Windsor Castle afloat. Here are just some of the staff titles:
  • Page Of The Chamber
  • Yeomen Of The Cellar
  • Castle Flagman
  • Yeomen Of The Glass
  • Master Of The Horse
I would also need a Keeper Of The Scarves and a Handler Of The Bath Gels & Candles.
"Filmed over the course of a year in an "upstairs-downstairs" fashion, this fascinating program provides a behind-the-scenes look at life inside Windsor Castle -- the world's largest inhabited castle -- via unprecedented camera access. Highlights include a visit from French President Jacques Chirac; the Queen's arrival for the Order of the Garter ceremony; and the high-profile celebration of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles's nuptials." -Netflix Online

How to Be A Golden Goddess

Talbots Faux-Metallic Twisted Braid Flip Flops ($59)

Jean-Michel Cazabat Thandie Chain Flat Sandals ($385)

Charlotte Russe Braided Loop Slingback Sandal ($17.50)

The foundation for any golden goddess is her pair of golden shoes. A golden glow is also essential but for now some gold sandals will do nicely.

"Where's My Manager?"

This photo shoot with Tootsie did not end well. She was not having any of it.
Happy Easter All Y'All!

Silver Boxes

As a minimalist, I have a hard time justifying the existence of boxes. Once you have one, there's a need to fill it and that's a slippery slope. I feel the same way about drawers. Nonetheless, I love this set of pressed silver boxes ($69 plus free shipping) from Pottery Barn. Now I must away to see my therapist.

In Style's Best Beauty Buys issue is in the hizzle. Every year I wait with bated breath to see if my makeup measures up. Go forth and get your issues or check out the winners online (not as fun).

Post Snark: I like that for every category they have an inexpensive option.

Ines de la Fabulous

When I grow up, I want to be just like Ines...and I want those shoes.
I've been obsessed with model/designer/style icon Ines de la Fressange for as long as I can remember. Naturally I was tres excited when I saw that she wrote a book in which she reveals her fabulous French secrets. Parisian Chic sells for $17.97 on Amazon

Along Came Pally

There's a new gay in town and his name is Max from the new TV show Happy Endings. Played by Adam Pally, Max is a refreshing take on a gay man. This exchange with his friend Penny sums it up:
Penny: Come on, you're a straight dude who likes dudes. I want a gay who will watch house flipping shows with me and grab my boobs in a platonic way.
Max: So you want a stereotypically cartoonish Sex in the City gay? That's offensive.
Penny: The heart wants what the heart wants.
Check out his interview with Julie Moran on Hollywood 411. For the record, I hate most sitcoms but thought Happy Endings was kind of cute, especially Max. Happy Endings airs tonight at 10 and you can also catch previous episodes on ABC online.

White Swan

From the pages of my childhood, I give you Suki the Swan.
He had a gentle nature that most swans do not possess. Oh Suki.
This nameless swan did not have a nice disposition.

Uh-Oh Moments

The always enlightened Oprah has aha moments. So jealous because all I have are uh-oh moments. For example, "Why did I just say that out loud?" or "What have I done to my hair?" My biggest uh-oh oh moment to date is that as of Thursday Oprah only has thirty shows left. No more ahas? Uh-Oh.

HGTV Green Home Giveaway Is A Go!

So I didn't win the HGTV Dream Home, but that's okay because now it's time for the HGTV Green Home Giveaway. Check out the picture gallery and click here to enter. Looks good to me with the exception of the ridiculously pink girl's room (big pink misstep).

Moms With Style

These moms are working it and just in time for Mother's Day.
My Mom, Style Icon sells for $12.37 on Amazon.

Here's my mom all decked out in her nursing outfit (she's not in the book). Up until her retirement, she wore the old school nurse's uniform and white hat. She could never succumb to the newfangled getups that look like ugly pajamas.

These clothes from Aqua are kind of fabulous but more importantly I love the animals. Check out the Aqua Closet at Bloomingdales.

Look Good, Do Good

Truth be told, most of my woven bags are in some state of disrepair. That Tootsie! So it's out with the old and in with the new. Enter the fabulous bags from Mar Y Sol. So easy breezy. I love looking like I'm on vacation. And here's the kicker:
"Mar Y Sol is a socially responsible accessories brand that collaborates with artists in New York and artisans in Madagascar.  We design and create authentic accessories made by hand using natural materials sourced sustainably from Madagascar’s precious forests.  The sale of our products enables families to gain economic independence and promotes environmental conservation.  This is achieved through fair trade partnerships with artisans who make a living wage through our “trade not aid” business model." -Mar Y Sol Online.
It would be wrong not to buy a bag from Mar Y Sol

Flip Out For Fabulous Alert

Click here to see Fabulous Alert in flip card formation. I'm kind of obsessed (tiny minds and all). While looking at my blog like this, I made the keen observation that Jon Hamm and Tootsie are featured a lot and are actually featured together in a Tootsie/Mad Men mashup. Check it out

Upstairs, Downstairs Redux

Get ready for the Upstairs, Downstairs sequel this Sunday. I'm blogging about this today so you can prepare for the big event. Everyone should dress like a master or a servant. What floor are you on?
"When the master of 165 Eaton Place, Sir Hallam Holland, carries his wife across the threshold of their new home, Lady Agnes exclaims with pleasure, "What a ghastly old mausoleum!" Neglect has strewn cobwebs everywhere and furred the surfaces with dust. But with a sumptuous renovation and the help of the indomitable housekeeper Rose Buck (Jean Marsh), the iconic address so beloved in the original series Upstairs Downstairs is soon restored to its former glory.
It's 1936, a tumultuous time in Britain, and within the walls of 165 Eaton Place, characters from an orphanage, a damp Welsh castle, the heart of the British Raj and elsewhere together will face a changing world, not just upstairs and downstairs, but side by side. Written by Heidi Thomas (CranfordMadame Bovary), Upstairs Downstairs stars co-creators of the original series Jean Marsh and Eileen Atkins (Cranford,Bertie and Elizabeth). Also starring are Ed Stoppard (Any Human Heart), Keeley Hawes (Wives and Daughters), and Claire Foy (Little Dorrit)." -PBS.ORG
The first installment airs Sunday night at 9 on PBS

More Gateway Clothing

Embroidered Linen Kaftan ($88)
Sixties Sandals ($88)

Boden's summer catalog just came out. I'm loving this embroidered kaftan and the sixties sandals. Just heed my warning about gateway clothing. Kaftans, tunics and the like are dangerously close to being muumuus and schmatas. Tread with caution.

Happy Birthday Paul Rudd!

I think Paul Rudd is just precious. If you haven't seen The Chateau, check out the trailer. Paul Rudd is at his quirky best in this offbeat little number.
"When two American brothers (Paul Rudd and Romany Malco) learn they've inherited a chateau in France, they can't believe their luck. But when they arrive, the brothers find themselves completely ill-equipped to communicate with the chateau's staff. What's more, they discover the chateau has an enormous debt, so they're forced to sell it, leaving a bewildered staff resorting to desperate and hilarious measures to keep their home."-Netflix

Post Snark: Did you know that Paul Rudd and Jon Hamm were pals in college. Heaven!

JUST IN: I just read on Perez Hilton that Paul Rudd is using his birthday to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Click here to help.

Guess Who's Coming To Target

(the color of a ceramic elephant teapot
they're going to offer).
Such was my greed that I almost didn't post this, but I came to my fabulous senses. Surely there wil be enough gold metallic poufs and tie-dyed tunics to go around.
Turn to pages 6-9 of your hymnal (and by hymnal I mean the May issue of Lucky). This might be the most fabulous Fabulous Alert ever. Calypso is hitting Target stores May 1st with women's clothing, children's clothing, accessories and home items ranging between $1.99- $79.99. I can scarcely contain myself.

Cabinet Of Natural Fabulousness

Naturally, I'm curious about Albertus Seba's Cabinet of Natural Curiosities. Could never afford the deluxe version which sells for $940 (ouch) but this new version at $26.39 on Amazon is doable.
"Albertus Seba's Cabinet of Natural Curiosities is one of the 18th century's greatest natural history achievements and remains one of the most prized natural history books of all time. Though scientists of his era often collected natural specimens for research purposes, Amsterdam-based pharmacist Albertus Seba (1665-1736) was unrivaled in his passion. His amazing collection of animals, plants and insects from all around the world gained international fame during his lifetime. In 1731, after decades of collecting, Seba commissioned illustrations of every specimen and arranged the publication of a four-volume catalog–from strange and exotic plants to snakes, frogs, crocodiles, shellfish, corals, birds, and butterflies, as well as fantastic beasts, such as a hydra and a dragon.
Seba's scenic illustrations, often mixing plants and animals in a single plate, were unusual even for the time. The more peculiar creatures from the collection–some of them now extinct–were as curious in Seba's day as they are today." -Taschen

Post Snark: This book has always been a mainstay for fabulous designers.
