Strange, I've Seen That Vase Before

The kiki vase from Crate And Barrel ($12.95) reminds me of the fabulous sea urchin vases from Roost, which you probably own if you were a Domino magazine aficionado. I think I need to add kiki to my family of urchins.

Oscar Night

I'm dying to see what James Franco and Anne Hathaway are going to bring to tonight's Oscars. With Franco in the hizzle, I'm thinking anything could happen. The red carpet begins at 7:00 and the ceremony starts at 8:30 on ABC.

More importantly, E!'s Fashion Police will rehash the night's fashions Monday night at 10:00. It will be the snarkiest snark that ever snarked.

"So Much Depends"

These Poetic License Candles (a sensory study of everyday moments) from Lollia look and probably smell fabulous. Check out their inspired descriptions:
  • I Can Still Smell The Rain reflects a sudden downpour, the air a rich mingling of damp earth, lily, sandalwood and fresh greens.
  • Running In Grass Barefoot brings to mind crushed blades tickling the feet as it releases clouds of cut grass and dandelion, fresh earth and jasmine.
  • Bittersweet softly reminds you of how a moment's sting gives way to sweet delight with a mingling of bitter orange and peony.
  • Sunspots On A Photograph brings memories of days in the sun glow with visions of endless summer. Soak in the warm aroma of mandarin, orange blossom and smooth amber.
Clearly, life won't be living until I get my hands on one of these candles. They're available for $30 at Neiman Marcus.

The Order Of Myths Is In Order

With Mardi Gras right around the corner (March 8th), this is the perfect time to queue up the fascinating documentary about the MG, The Order Of Myths.
"The first Mardi Gras in America was celebrated in Mobile, Alabama in 1703. In 2007, it is still racially segregated. Filmmaker Margaret Brown (Be Here to Love Me: A Film About Townes Van Zandt), herself a daughter of Mobile, escorts us into the parallel hearts of the city's two carnivals. With unprecedented access, she traces the exotic world of secret mystic societies and centuries-old traditions and pageantry; diamond-encrusted crowns, voluminous, hand-sewn gowns, surreal masks and enormous paper mache floats. Against this opulent backdrop, she uncovers a tangled web of historical violence and power dynamics, elusive forces that keep this hallowed tradition organized along enduring color lines." -Amazon

    Always Smell Fabulous (ASF)

The Lucky Scent exclusive Corallium by Carthusia is my new favorite scent. Here's the totally not over the top description from Lucky Scent:
"Try to imagine a fresh breeze on the Isle of Capri, crossed by inland winds carrying scents of perfumed wood, aromatic herbs, flowers, and fruits roughened by the salty air. And then they emerge: the sharp notes of Bay and Myrrh, of Mandarin and Bergamot combined with dense Patchouli and Cedar, masterfully balanced by a solid base of Sage, Musk and Tree Sedum. These are just a hint of the sensations bursting forth from Corallium, created from the sea with its astonishingly high quality and remarkable persistence.

It is from the resources of the Mediterranean that Corallium gains all its fascination. A fragrance of rare intensity and sensuality, perfectly gratifying to even the most demanding connoisseurs." - Lucky Scent Online

I was just going to say that Corallium smells really nice. You can get a sample for $3 plus shipping at Lucky Scent.
