Kennedys' Home Movies

Narrated by former First Lady Abbey Bartlet a.k.a. Stockard Channing, "Kennedys' Home Movies" is rare footage of the famous clan. It airs tonight at 9 and 11 on TLC. I might have to put on a babushka like Little Edie. Click here for a preview.

Post Snark: This fabulous print of the Kennedy wedding by Lisa Larsen is available starting at $49.99 on AllPosters.com

Gateway Clothing?

I love tunics, kaftains and the like but are these gateway clothes to muumuus? And let's face it, muumuus are like one chromosome away from being schmatas. I just want to put this out there because I don't want to be responsible for anyone's fall from fabulous. Let us be aware that with tunics it's a slippery slope. This one from Boden ($88) is so fabulous there's really no worry...plus you get a matching bag. No harm in that.

New Ping Playlist: Drew's Groove

Check out my friend Drew's 2010 soundtrack. Pretty cool.

Get Your Tassels On

For your ears, silly.
In the past I may have referred to Ann Taylor as "bland Ann" but clearly this tassel jewelry from Ann Taylor is anything but. They're claiming that the tassel is this season's must-have adornment. I can abide by this. The necklace goes for $48 and the earrings $38.

Can We Talk?

We need more bawdy dames in this world and Joan Rivers is one of my favorites. I'm so excited about her new show, Joan Knows Best?.
"Joan Rivers, the ultimate New Yorker, decides to move to California to be with daughter Melissa and grandson Cooper. But there are a few surprises in store—like Melissa’s live-in boyfriend, Jason. Will Joan and Melissa make it work? Tune in to see the drama unfold!" -WeTv.com
Joan Knows Best? airs tonight at 9 on WeTv (just flip back and forth between this and the State Of The Union). You can also see Joan on the Fashion Police on Fridays at 10:30 on E! Check out this adorable George Stephanopoulos interview with Joan and Melissa on ABC.

Post Snark: Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work is mandatory viewing for the fabulous. Click here for the trailer.

Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

So fabulous, I'd never leave.
If loving this Italian Campaign Canopy Bed is wrong, I don't want to be right. Here's a picture by William Waldron from Elle Decor of what New York designer Tom Scheerer did with it. So fabulous. I'll see you at the mattress ball.

You can purchase said bed at Anthro for $1,250- $1,898.

The Mt. Everest Of Chanel Books

In order to buy this Chanel Three Book Set, Special Edition coffee table book by Francois Baudot and Fancoise Aveline, I'd have to sell my coffee table. Oh the irony! It sells for $550 (gulp) on Assouline.
"Produced exclusively for Assouline by Chanel, this luxe slipcase is made of genuine black quilted leather and adorned with a metal Chanel logo. Celebrate Chanel's revolutionary style in three editions: Chanel Fashion, Chanel Fine Jewelry, and Chanel Perfume." -Assouline Online

My Charmance

Kick your bleak midwinter to the curb with this fun French film. Filmed in Monaco with two French hotties, Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis, Heartbreaker is a perfect little escape. It's charming and romantic...charmant!c! Check out the trailer.
"Alex (Romain Duris) and his sister, Mélanie (Julie Ferrier), and her husband, Marc (François Damiens), earn money by breaking up relationships. But when Alex falls for a client's (Jacques Frantz) daughter, Juliette (Vanessa Paradis), he has to decide if he'll bust up her wedding to Jonathon (Andrew Lincoln), who's truly perfect for her. Pascal Chaumeil directs this romantic comedy filmed in Monaco." -Netflix

Post Snark: Vanessa Paradis is bringing sexy back to gapped teeth. Just like how Gene Tierney brought the overbite to the forefront, Vanessa is making this flaw look fabulous.

My Strange Addiction

I don't sleep with my hair dryer or eat toilet paper, but I do have a "special" relationship with my scarves. In the springtime after hand-washing all of them I put them on my bed and tell them stories. Not true, but I do love my scarves. Here are some of this season's front runners.

Post Snark: I love that the lady who eats toilet paper brings a roll to the movies for her snack. That's dedication. My Strange Addiction airs tonight at 9 EST on TLC. It's my latest guilty pleasure.

Color Of The Year

And the award for color of the year goes to (drumroll please)...Pantone 18-2120 Honeysuckle! Honestly, I didn't see this upset coming. Citrine lobbied really hard and has reportedly gone back to the crayon box. Here's the skinny on Pantone 18-2120 Honeysuckle:
"While the 2010 color of the year, PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise, served as an escape for many, Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life." -Pantone Online
Check out past winners.

And The Golden Globe Goes To...

Is there an award for most fabulous?

Once again, sassy Ricky Gervais is hosting the Golden Globes which airs tonight at 8 EST on NBC. Click here to see the nominations. Sadly, I'm only going to catch the first hour because I'm doing the Downton Abbey thing on PBS at 9.

I'm actually more interested in the Golden Globe special Fashion Police is airing Monday night at 10 on E! I want me some snark.

Spill It, Candice

On Candie Olsen's new show Candice Tells All she reveals her precious secrets. I don't know what's going on in Canada, but on Divine Design Candice always puts together the most stylish rooms with the best stuff. The episode "Designing With Black" airs tonight at 8 on HGTV.
"In Candice Tells All, she shares the underlying design principles that can be applied to any space, revealing a home's true potential. This is Candice unplugged, as she deconstructs the design process and teaches us her rules in a fun, irreverent way." -HGTV Online.

Baby, You're A Star!

Colin Firth gets a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame today. I've been obsessed with The Firth ever since the deliciously dark Apartment Zero. Here are my five Firth faves:
  • Apartment Zero
  • Pride & Prejudice
  • A Single Man
  • Valmont
  • The Advocate
Haven't seen The King's Speech yet, but with all the praise it's garnered I suspect it would be on the list.

Post Snark: The picture above is Firth as the Darciest Darcy that every Darcied.

How Firm Is Your Foundation?

I'm changing my bedroom up for the new year. I'm also buying new underdrawers. A comfy bedroom and new underpinnings are just what I need to launch 2011. There will be no stopping me. I'm loving this look on Coastal Living's website.

Ship Shape

Every January clean and crisp nautical looks appear like clockwork. It's a welcome transition. The fabulous Madewell has a nice selection with some gorgeous shades of blue.
This sassy anchor tote sells at Old Navy for $9.50. Now, I must away to the poop deck.

Let There Be Light...

...figuratively, not literally. I like that chandeliers can be chic and spooky at the same time (kind of like my Aunt Bunny). This hand-painted chandelier painting sells for $289 at Ballard Designs.

09 January 2011

Downton Abbey

Did someone say opulent costume drama starring Dame Maggie Smith? I'm on this new masterpiece production like stink on a monkey. Check out the Downton Abbey fabulousness:
"A stately country house, a noble family, and a succession crisis caused by the sinking of the Titanic are the backdrop for this epic drama by Oscar-winning writer Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park) about the lives of aristocrats and servants in the years before World War I. A runaway hit during its UK broadcast, Downton Abbey stars Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, and other great actors in a production that brings a glittering bygone era to life. (4 parts, 90 minutes each)" -PBS online
Episode one airs tonight at 9:00 on PBS. Last one there has to sleep in the servants quarters.

Post Snark: To counterbalance my highbrow television viewing, tomorrow (10 p.m A&E) I'm going to watch the shocking season finale of Hoarders...featuring the man who loved rats too much.

Thank You Very Much

When it comes to saying thank you, I go old school. These notes from Target for $22.99 are nice and simple. Now, where's my wax seal?

And They All Lived Appily Ever After

Yesterday, Apple opened the Mac App Store where you can download apps to your Mac. My PowerBook G4 (Gigi) is going to be so happy. She's always been a little jealous of my iPhone. Now I'm just going to need a month of Sundays for all this appiness.

Why did I eat so much during the holidays? Oh the horror! One of my New Year's resolutions is to straighten up and fly right. Maybe these therapeutic essential oils from 21 Drops can help. They sell for $28 each at Beautyhabit and I'm thinking about the one called abstain which promises to quench, satisfy and sate. Bring it.
