Killing Eve Kills...

Chic AF Assassin

Rough & Tumble Assassin

Casual 'Day Off' Assassin

The best thing that came out of 2018 was Killing Eve. Period. End of story. Smart, strong female characters, international locations, chic fashion, cool spy stuff and a kick-ass soundtrack.

Fingers crossed, the Golden Globes gets this right and gives Killing Eve the award for best drama series and Sandra Oh the award for best actress in a drama series. Jodie Comer wasn’t nominated but what she did with Villanelle is epic. Is it wrong that I want to go shopping with an assassin?

Spark Joy, Already!

Wasn’t sure how to start the new year. Yoga? Juice cleanse? Journaling? Self-flagellation? The new Netflix series, Tidying Up With Marie Condo, was the obvious choice. I highly recommend her method of only keeping things that bring joy to your life. It really works and talking to inanimate objects seems silly at first but now I can’t stop.

“Thank you woolen scarf for keeping me warm that one time (I live in Florida) but you’ve got to go. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”

“Arigato sterling silver fondue pot I haven’t used since I was in my twenties. You were responsible for my cheese addiction and subsequent weight gain. Now leave.”

“Muchas gracias creepy Christmas ornament that’s been in my family for generations. Now I’ll finally be able to sleep with both eyes shut.”

“Danke tiny makeup samples that came with a gift with purchase. I have no idea how to use you and don’t appreciate you judging me.”

Leonard Bernstein's 100th Birthday!

Today's Google doodle fills my heart with song. It would have been the brilliant Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday. Let's celebrate! Here's a primer.

Post Snark: I could listen to West Side Story every day and never tire of it.

Antidote For Longest Fourth Of July In History

This has been the longest Fourth Of July ever. It started on Friday and is still going on with no end in sight but I have just the antidote. Directed by Stephen Frears, A Very English Scandal has everything I'm looking for in a BBC production: great writing, great acting, atmosphere, a cheeky soundtrack, and a few cute animals (Mrs. Tish is the Shirley Temple of Jack Russell Terriers). This crazy story is true. Stream it now on Amazon and get ready to be entertained.

My love for Ben Wishaw and that amazing hair of his knows no bounds and Hugh Grant is back honey. Not just kind of sort of back, but back back. Both actors deserve awards for this.

And for a little lagniappe check out Prick Up Your Ears, the true story of playwright Joe Orton (also directed by Stephen Frears).

Yass! Bonus Queer Eye Episode!

Tried not to burn through season two of Queer Eye but I couldn't help but devour it. The levity was much needed. Here is a bonus episode of Queer Eye. A little lagniappe pour vous. Your welcs.

Grey Skies Are Going To Clear Up!

Travels Through The French Riviera
($19.95) Amazon
By Virginia Johnson

Calling all Kate Spade aficionados! This is a FABULOUS ALERT LEVEL VERMILION, the highest level I can sanction. Virginia Johnson has a new book and I am living for it. Having endured weeks of ghastly, gloomy weather, Travels Through The French Riviera is exactly what I didn’t know I needed. I scarcely remember what the sun looks like. It’s yellow, right? BTW, that’s proof positive that a pop of yellow can make you happy (just ask Gayle).

Farewell Bad Weather Funk!

For anyone who owns of copy of Sara Midda’s South Of France, A Sketchbook, drop everything (even a baby) and order this book. Also, check out Virginia's website.

In Memory Of Dame Daphne Sheldrick. If you aren't familiar with her work with orphaned elephants, stop everything and check out this documentary.

"Babar kisses the Old Lady goodbye.
He would be quite happy to go if it were not for leaving her.
He promises to come back some day. He will never forget her."

Don’t F With The Sun!

Sephora Sun Safety Kit $36 ($161 value)

Take it from a skin cancer survivor, do not F with the sun. She is not here for that. Sephora does this Sun Safety Kit every year and it really is a good deal. You can try a bunch of different products and Sephora donates $25 to cancer charities with each purchase, and you get to live to see another day.

POST SNARK: If you want to “glow” then drink water, get plenty of sleep and eat your carrots.

Selfish Love. Is There Any Other Kind?

Loving this new Jessie Ware video that I caught wind of on Perez Hilton. J'adore the hair, clothes and Slim Aarons-esque backdrop. Where’s my Bain de Soleil?

By the way, disturbing imagery is having a moment and rightly so. The brutality of man and all that.

“If Only”

I’ve said it before, but The Crown makes Downton Abbey look like Downton Shabby. The preview of season two of The Crown has officially brought me back to life. It isn’t happening until December 8th on Netflix, but maybe if I take a really long nap (one of my nicknames is Hibernatia)...

I spy exotic locales, a sassy Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, a dreamy Mathew Goode, Dexter (what’s he doing there), a hirsute Prince Phillip, and a jealous Queen who is fed up. “If only.” Indeed.

Your welcs.

Corky St. Clair Is Back!

Lately, I’ve been wondering what’s missing in my life, and I concluded that I have a Corky St. Clair-sized hole in my heart that can now be filled because Christopher Guest is reprising his Waiting For Guffman role as the fabulous CSC. The new mockumentary Mascots has all the usual suspects: Parker Posey, Fred Willard Jane Lynch, Ed Begley Jr., Jennifer Coolidge, Michael Hitchcock, and Bob Balaban. Check out the fun trailer. Mascots is coming To Netflix October 13th.

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

The Night Manager Tonight

The Night Manager airs tonight at 10 on AMC. Be there and behold the beautiful blue eyes of Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, and Elizabeth Debicki. As a spy story aficionado, this six episode John le Carre adaptation looks promising, and more importantly Elizabeth's hair and wardrobe are super chic.

MAC's New Holiday Collection Unveiled!

MAC's New Heirloom Mix Collection.

It's that special time of year when MAC unveils their holiday collection. You never know what you're going to get. Will it be futuristic (remember the Space Odyssey-esque collection), traditional (the tartan collection) or upscale French prostitute circa 1950. This year's collection is called Heirloom Mix. With lots of sparkling cameos, it's very ghost glamour or Miss Havisham after things went south. November 6th is when the lip gloss, nail polish, and pigment sets become available which is when I strike.

Soon To Be Trending: The Roosevelts

The Roosevelts: An Intimate History, the new Ken Burns project, is coming to PBS Sunday night at 8. I'm so there.

"THE ROOSEVELTS: AN INTIMATE HISTORY chronicles the lives of Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of the most prominent and influential family in American politics. It is the first time in a major documentary television series that their individual stories have been interwoven into a single narrative.  This seven-part, fourteen hour film follows the Roosevelts for more than a century, from Theodore’s birth in 1858 to Eleanor’s death in 1962. Over the course of those years, Theodore would become the 26th President of the United States and his beloved niece, Eleanor, would marry his fifth cousin, Franklin, who became the 32nd President of the United States. Together, these three individuals not only redefined the relationship Americans had with their government and with each other, but also redefined the role of the United States within the wider world. The series encompasses the history the Roosevelts helped to shape: the creation of National Parks, the digging of the Panama Canal, the passage of innovative New Deal programs, the defeat of Hitler, and the postwar struggles for civil rights at home and human rights abroad. It is also an intimate human story about love, betrayal, family loyalty, personal courage and the conquest of fear."- PBS
